About the Author: Yohance Henley

Yohance Henley’s storytelling journey began at the age of 18, where he found his voice as a captivating teller of tales. Under the mentorship of Glen “Kwabeena” Davis, Yohance mastered the art of sharing Anansi stories, weaving these timeless Caribbean narratives throughout the USVI Territory.

In 2017, Yohance penned his first book, Broo Nansi and Sis Iwanna, a new retelling of a classic Anansi tale. This debut earned him the prestigious Governor’s Reading Challenge Award, solidifying his place as a literary voice in the Virgin Islands. Building on this success, Yohance transitioned into self-publishing with Anansi and Mongoose in 2019, followed by Anansi and Turtle in 2021.

Beyond his personal accomplishments, Yohance has been a guiding hand for others in the Virgin Islands community, helping over five authors bring their works to life. This includes notable titles such as Torhera Durand’s How Anansi Spun Madras and Julio “Mr. Pete” Petes’s Kari Goes to the Fair. His efforts have left an indelible mark on the literary and cultural fabric of the Virgin Islands.

Now, Yohance is back with his latest creation, Anansi The Litterbug, a tale that blends environmental awareness with the magic of storytelling.

Anansi The Litterbug!

The story follows the mischievous Anansi, who carelessly throws trash everywhere, disrupting the island’s beauty and upsetting his friends. When the other animals challenge him to change his ways, Anansi embarks on a journey to learn the importance of keeping his environment clean. This fun and engaging tale teaches children about responsibility, teamwork, and caring for nature.

This time, Yohance will not only bring his stories to life through words but also through his artistry as an illustrator.

Get ready to be inspired as Yohance Henley embarks on this incredible journey, spreading the magic of Anansi stories to a new generation of readers and creators. Don’t miss the opportunity to join the adventure!
